SIs n' Jones
In 2003 Sis ‘n Jones was formed, bringing an exciting, fresh new sound to Mzanzi house music. With their different musical backgrounds and experiences, it was their shared passion for deep soulful music that brought Gerald “Sisco” Ribeiro (DJ Sisco Umlambo, co-owner of Multi-Racial Records) and Arthur-John “ArtJones” Bukenya (co-owner of Seamless Music) together.
‘Life Passes You By’, Sis ‘n Jones’ first collaboration, featuring the talented singer Roxanne Myles aka Roxy was followed by a number of hit tunes, including ‘Awungitshele’ (featuring ZULU) and ‘On This Day’ (featuring Tshepiro), which was written for Sisco’s wife on their wedding day. All three tracks were entered into the world renowned annual Westend Records Music Competition, which receives entries from all over the world. Two of the tracks, Awungitshele & On this day were included in the international compilation release, after securing positions in the competition’s Top 10.
In 2005 Sis ‘n Jones released the summer single ‘Set Your Mind Free’ (featuring Khanyi “Lüz” Legoka). The sound was mature, the timing was right and the single was a smash hit! ‘Set Your Mind Free’ was used on a number of compilations and was also released on vinyl with remixes by DJ’s Christos and Black Coffee.
Sis ‘n Jones’ label, Omwooyo Curacao Music, was launched in 2006 and since then the duo have released a couple of 12" singles and 12" EP’s, which have received acclaim both internationally and on the local music scene. Sis ‘n Jones, through Omwooyo Curacao Music have worked with a number of artists and producers on various compilations and artist albums, including.
With Sisco on the decks and sampler, ArtJones on the keys and Roger the percussionist their passion flowed over into their live performances featuring the artists they worked with in the studio. They successfully fused the live element with the house music, recreating their own tracks and other popular house tunes with a three-piece band. Since 2005 Sis n' Jones produced hits that reverberated through the summer season year after year, Art Jones untimely death in 2009 has seen Sis n Jones era come to a halt, even though not forgotten, it is planned for the unreleased projects to be released in the future.
